Formula Renault BARC front-runner Menasheh Idafar will line up third on the grid for the final two races of the 2008 season at Silverstone National Circuit tomorrow, Sunday, 5th October, after a highly competitive run in qualifying earlier today.
During this morning’s round 11 qualifying session, Menasheh produced a best lap of 56.516 seconds (104.40mph) to secure third on the grid – a mere 0.040 seconds shy of Hillspeed team-mate Ahmad Al Harthy’s pole position.
In round 12 qualifying the 17-year-old replicated his top three placing with a time of 56.904 seconds (103.68mph), emerging as the fastest of Hillspeed’s three drivers just over a 10th of a second shy of the front row. Up until the final minute, he was on course for second place on the grid but was pipped right at the end by Ross Curnow.
With a top three championship finish still attainable for Menasheh, tomorrow’s races will be crucial in determining his final position in the driver standings at the end of, what has been, a successful second year of racing in Britain in Formula Renault BARC.
Speaking after round 12 qualifying, Menasheh said: “I’m pleased to be starting both races from the second row of the grid and hopefully we’ll be as competitive tomorrow as the car felt good today, especially in the first session. It’s very close between the front drivers here at Silverstone National, tomorrow’s races should be good.”
The final two races of the 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship will take place at Silverstone National Circuit tomorrow, Sunday, 5th October, with round 11 timetabled to get underway at 12.00 and round 12 set to follow at 16.40. Both encounters are set to be contested over 14 laps.
