Menasheh Idafar enjoyed by far his most impressive outing of the official Formula Renault UK pre-season at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent today, Tuesday, 3rd March, after delivering excellent speed in both wet and dry conditions.
Most eye-catching was the performance the 17-year-old produced during one hour of fully wet testing during the final 60 minutes of the morning session. Running fourth fastest for much of the period, Menasheh ended up sixth quickest in the rain – a terrific effort.
At the conclusion of this morning’s run as a whole, the British-born Bahraini was 10th overall, and the fourth fastest ‘Graduate Cup’ runner, with a best lap of 44.689 seconds (96.55mph).
During the three-hour afternoon session, which saw the track largely dry by the end, the Hillspeed racer was 12th quickest with a time of 44.677 seconds (96.58mph).
Considering overall positions for the day, Menasheh was 13th on combined times – out of a total of 30 drivers on track – and the fifth fastest of the 13 Graduate Cup contenders. He concluded the day just seven 10ths of a second shy of Formula Renault UK Winter Champion James Calado’s pace-setting best.
“To be so fast in the wet was proof of how hard Menasheh has been working to improve his wet weather performances”, said Hillspeed’s Richard Ollerenshaw, “He was in great form all day but to end up comfortably inside the top 10 in the rain was a big confidence build.
“Ending the morning 10th overall and then finishing the day 13th on combined times was a very good effort. We’re all very pleased.”
The Gulfol, Ortolan and Gulf Computer Services backed driver will be back in action at Brands Hatch tomorrow, Wednesday, 4th March, for day two of the Formula Renault UK test.
