Up and coming single-seater racer Menasheh Idafar produced an impressive effort during general testing at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire today, Friday, 20th February – his final track outing before the official Formula Renault UK pre-season commences next week.
The Gulfol, Ortolan and Gulf Computer Services backed racer took part in four 55-minute sessions at the ultra-fast 2.35-mile circuit and posted a best lap of 1m 11 seconds using unofficial timing, around half a second shy of the perceived genuine outright pace.
Richard Ollerenshaw, team principal of Menasheh’s Hillspeed squad, said: “It’s been another good day, he was on top form and produced some impressive lap times. Without official timing we’re all estimating where everyone is, but we’re fairly confident we have it right he was about half a second off the overall pace – a very good performance.”
Off the back of a brace of equally promising outings at Rockingham on Wednesday and Silverstone on Thursday, the British-born Bahraini teenager heads into next week’s two-day official test at Rockingham’s International Super Sports Car Circuit in confident mood.
Over the course of the next month, the Formula Renault UK competitors will undertake officially timed testing each week. The season proper then commences on 4th/5th April at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent for rounds one and two of the 2009 championship.
Menasheh will return to action next Tuesday, 24th February, at Rockingham with a second day of testing at the Northamptonshire venue on Wednesday, 25th February.
