Hillspeed’s Menasheh Idafar made a good start to official pre-season Formula Renault UK testing at Rockingham this morning, Tuesday, 24th February, during the first of two full days at the Northamptonshire track.
The 17-year-old category rookie joined over 20 other Formula Renault UK competitors for the first time this year as Renault Sport UK’s officially sanctioned and timed pre-season activity got underway.
Lapping with a best time of 1m 16.748 seconds (90.99mph) during this morning’s opening three-hour session, Menasheh was a highly respectable ninth overall and fourth fastest of the championship newcomers.
The British-born Bahraini also ran well this afternoon but couldn’t quite match his best from the first session. At the conclusion of the first day at Rockingham, Menasheh was just over a second shy of pace-setting title contender Dean Stoneman.
“We were fairly happy with the ninth fastest time this morning”, commented Hillspeed’s Matt Shawyer, “Unfortunately this afternoon Menasheh wasn’t able to improve his time but we know where we need to make some changes. It’s been a good day but we’re aiming to be faster tomorrow.”
The second day of the first official test of the Formula Renault UK Championship pre-season will take place at Rockingham’s International Super Sports Car Circuit tomorrow, Wednesday, 25th February.
