Hillspeed’s Menasheh Idafar prepared perfectly for this weekend’s third and fourth rounds of the 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship during unofficial testing at Rockingham in Northamptonshire today, Friday, 18th April.

The 17-year-old championship leader lapped strongly throughout the day’s four sessions and using the team’s own unofficial timings, Menasheh ended the test run with a highly creditable best lap of 1m 19.5 seconds.

Importantly, the Gulfol, Ortolan and Gulf Computer Services backed racer produced his fault-free performance using old tyres. Some other front-runners did produce comparable times but only when using new rubber, putting the British-born Bahraini in a strong position ahead of qualifying at Rockingham tomorrow, Saturday, 19th April.

“We couldn’t have prepared for the weekend any better than we have today so I’m really looking forward to qualifying”, said a buoyant Menasheh, “We used old tyres throughout the test and we still set some very good laps times so I’m confident for the weekend.

“Everything is going really well, the team is working perfectly and the car feels fantastic every time we take to the track. We’re not over-confident for this weekend’s races as we’re sure it’ll be tough but I do think we have a good chance to fight for the podium.”

Qualifying for the third and fourth rounds of the 2008 season will take place tomorrow, Saturday, 19th April, at 10.15 and 14.15. On raceday, Sunday, 20th April, round three is expected to get underway at 10.35 with round four provisionally timetabled to start at approximately 15.00

With the weather forecast for the Rockingham area predicting a cloudy start tomorrow and the distinct possibility of rain throughout the afternoon, qualifying could indeed be unpredictable and especially so for the round four session.
