Hillspeed’s Menasheh Idafar surprised the established Formula Renault UK runners during testing at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire, today, Friday, 31st October, by producing the second fastest lap overall on official timings.
Ahead of tomorrow’s first two rounds of the four-race 2008 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship, the British-born Bahraini improved throughout today’s wet run to end the third and final session with a best lap of 1m 24.896 seconds (90.11mph).
Following on from a strong showing in the dry on Thursday, 30th October, where he matched the pace of drivers such as category race winner James Calado in bitterly cold conditions, Menasheh is happy with his performance but knows there is a great deal of hard work ahead to be competitive during qualifying and racing tomorrow.
“We’re hoping for a good day tomorrow, if Menasheh can qualify in the top 10 and take a couple of solid top 10 finishes in the races that will be a great start and the whole team will be very happy”, said Hillspeed driver coach Matt Shawyer.
“The chequered flag was put out five seconds early during the last session today, with another lap he could have been fastest. Second was an excellent effort though and backed up his front-running pace from Thursday. All in all it’s been a good couple of days in changeable conditions but the hard work begins tomorrow!”
Following on from an impressive outing at Snetterton in Norfolk on Tuesday of this week, Menasheh once again underlined his potential over the last couple of days and is greatly looking forward to rounds one and two of the 2008 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship tomorrow, Saturday, 1st November.
Qualifying for both races will begin at 09.30 tomorrow with the first race expected to get underway at 11.10 and race two following at approximately 13.45.
