British-born Bahraini racing driver Menasheh Idafar produced good pace during general testing at Rockingham in Northamptonshire yesterday, Thursday, 23rd October, with just a week to go until the 2008 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship begins.
At the wheel of his Hillspeed-run FR 2.0 single-seater, Menasheh lapped strongly alongside a full complement of winter series competitors taking part in the day’s activity and lapped within a few 10ths of a second of the outright pace.
The 17-year-old, who has been supported all year by Gulf Computer Services, Ortolan and Gulfol, made good use of his latest run at Rockingham’s International Super Sports Car Circuit – the venue for the final two rounds of the Winter Championship a fortnight from now.
Speaking after the latest test outing, Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw said: “We had a very good day and were pleased with the pace Menasheh showed once again. The conditions weren’t great when he had a run on new tyres but he still ended up just a couple of 10ths shy of what we believe the outright pace was.”
Ahead of next weekend’s opening two rounds of the 2008 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship at Croft Circuit, Menasheh is expected to have one further practice run prior to the official test at the North Yorkshire venue on Friday, 31st October.
Qualifying for rounds one and two of the four-race series will commence at 09.30 on Saturday, 1st November, with racing timetabled to take place at 11.10 and 13.45.
