Menasheh Idafar made a steady start to the fourth race meeting of the 2011 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit today, Friday, 17th June, by posting the 13th fastest time in both sessions.
This morning’s opening one-hour run at the 2.3-mile Kent track took place in dry conditions with the 20-year-old steering his Dallara-Volkswagen to a best time of 1m19.518 seconds (110.16mph), placing him just over a second shy of the top three.
Heavy rain for session two led to a significant drop in lap times for all concerned, Menasheh setting a quickest of 1m32.238 seconds (94.96mph) to go 13th fastest once again. Unfortunately, the T-Sport driver did have a trip into the gravel trap at Druids Hairpin midway through the session but the excursion proved to be harmless.
“It’s been an ok day really”, said Menasheh, “I would have liked to have been quicker, obviously, but it’s not a bad start. We had some experience of the track in the dry and wet too which could be very useful as we don’t know what the weather will do at the weekend.”
Heading into rounds 10, 11 and 12, the British-born Bahraini is 12th in the championship standings, five points clear of his closest pursuer and just a couple of points adrift of 11th place. So far in his maiden season in the headline International Class, Menasheh has achieved one podium which came during round six at Oulton Park in Cheshire.
Qualifying at Brands Hatch GP Circuit will take place at 10.45 tomorrow, Saturday, 18th June, with the first of the weekend’s races, round 10, scheduled to follow at 14.45. Round 11 will commence at 11.20 on Sunday, 19th June, with round 12 set to get underway at 14.10.
