Exciting single-seater sensation Menasheh Idafar cannot wait for this weekend’s third and fourth rounds of the Formula Renault BARC Championship to begin after enjoying a faultless two-day test run with his Hillspeed team earlier in the week.
Menasheh, who heads into the event at Rockingham in Northamptonshire at the top of the championship standings following a double podium result at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit a little over three weeks ago, continues to impress with every outing and has a realistic opportunity of repeated success this weekend, 19th/20th April.
The 17-year-old British-born Bahraini, who is backed this year by Gulf Computer Services, Gulfol and Ortolan, visited Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire on Wednesday of this week and lapped a full 1.5 seconds quicker than the Formula Renault BARC competitors managed in 2007, emerging as the fastest driver of all at the test.
On Tuesday, he visited Rockingham to gain some vital extra mileage ahead of the upcoming race meeting and, once again, the test went very well. Menasheh’s best lap, 1m 19.0 seconds, was the quickest he has ever managed at the Northamptonshire track.
All in all, the FR2000 Class front-runner has prepared faultlessly for the weekend’s action at Rockingham’s International Super Sports Car Circuit and he cannot wait for the serious business of qualifying to begin on Saturday morning. Before then though, he will take part in a final practice at the track tomorrow, Friday, 18th April.
“Testing has gone really well for us since the Brands Hatch races”, said Menasheh, “The team has been working really hard and during this week’s tests the car has been really good. It’s fantastic to go into this weekend’s races leading the championship and it would be incredible to still be on top after Rockingham.
“If we can be consistent though and score two decent results I’ll be happy. Hopefully the weather will be better than we had at Brands when it snowed but, whatever happens, I’m confident I will have a great car and we’ll be able to challenge for some good results.”
Round three qualifying is scheduled to take place at 10.15 on Saturday, 19th April, with the round four session to follow at 14.15. Both races are timetabled for Sunday, 20th April, with round three provisionally expected to begin at 10.35 and round four getting underway at around 15.00.
