TERRIFIC TOP EIGHT FOR IDAFAR ON DAY ONE OF SILVERSTONE TEST

Menasheh Idafar produced perhaps his most impressive performance of the Formula Renault UK pre-season at Silverstone National Circuit this afternoon, Tuesday, 24th March, by ending the first day of the final official test eighth fastest overall.

Strong throughout today’s quartet of 50-minute sessions, the Hillspeed racer concluded his day’s work with a best lap of 54.245 seconds (108.77mph) during the last period to end the day just four 10ths of a second away from the top of the timesheets. He was also the third fastest of the 11 drivers eligible for this year’s ‘Graduate Cup’ for rookie competitors.

Furthermore, Menasheh’s quickest time was a full seven 10ths of a second inside the Silverstone National Circuit race lap record for Formula Renault UK which was set last August by 2008 Vice-Champion, and McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner, Alexander Sims.

“Menasheh was in fantastic form today, he did a great job and his push on new tyres towards the end was very good indeed”, said Hillspeed’s Richard Ollerenshaw, “To end the day inside the top eight against such strong opposition is a credit to him and all of the hard work he’s done to improve his driving over the last month during the pre-season tests.”

During the opening session this morning, Menasheh was 11th overall with a time of 55.235 seconds (106.82mph) before improving his pace by four 10ths of a second in the second session with a lap of 54.885 seconds (107.50mph).

The third outing saw the British-born Bahraini lap with roughly the same performance as he did in session two but he then went on to find a full six 10ths of a second in period four to round-off the day in tremendous style with his 54.245 second best.

Silverstone’s full Grand Prix Circuit configuration will be in use tomorrow, Wednesday, 25th March, for the second day of official Formula Renault UK Championship testing at the Northamptonshire venue.
